Growing in Faith
Children
St. Margaret Church and St. Mary Magdalen Mission

Elementary Faith Formation
PreK and Kindergarten
Our PreK and Kindergarten program invites children ages three and four (PreK class) and age 5 (Kindergarten) to gather in a preschool or Kindergarten setting. During this time, children will begin to learn about the Catholic faith through lessons featuring Bible stories, music, crafts, prayer, and various activities. Classes are held in the St. Margaret Preschool building located next to the church on the main campus. Catechists are trained and VIRTUS certified through the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Children must be completely potty trained to be able to attend.
Registration is required, and a fee of $40 is due at the time of registration. The registration fee covers the cost of all materials and craft supplies that will be used throughout the year.
Sessions begin in September 2024 and end in April 2025.

* REMINDER FOR INCOMING 8th GRADE PARENTS: *
If you intend for your son or daughter to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation in 9th grade, enrollment in 8th grade faith formation is required.
Grades 6, 7 & 8
Classes meet Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:15 pm in the Middle School Building on the St. Mary Magdalen Mission Campus September through April.
This program allows the youth to meet in small grade appropriate groups with catechists and the coordinator to explore the four pillars of the Catholic faith. We do this through prayer, catechism, scripture, activities, service projects, and large group gatherings with parents.

Home Study
Grades 1 and 3-7
The program provides parents with materials and support to home-school their youth through the four pillars of our Catholic faith.
Large group gatherings with both parents and their youth take place four times during the school year on Tuesday evenings. This provides opportunities for families to grow together in their faith.
Chapter quizzes and attendance are the primary ways we assess successful participation in this program.

First Reconciliation
In preparing for this Sacrament, parents work together with their children and discover God’s healing and loving presence in their lives.
Both the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist are unique in the way in which they make Christ present in our lives and in the lives of our children. The simple faith of your child at this age presents the perfect opportunity to explain both God’s rules for living and His desire to stay in close friendship with us. For this reason, we encourage you to have your children receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation before they prepare for their First Eucharist.
If you have questions about preparing your child for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, contact Joan Motsay Brown at 410-879-2670 or 410-838-6969, ext. 127.

First Eucharist for Children
First Eucharist is generally celebrated in the month of May for children in 2nd grade and higher. Children must be enrolled in Faith Formation for two years as preparation for Eucharist. Contact Joan Motsay Brown, 410-838-6969 ext. 127 or 410-879-2670, for more information .
Children must have successfully completed one year of Catholic school or a Faith Formation program prior to preparation. Parents or guardians must attend a First Eucharist meeting to register for this Sacrament.
