Elementary & Middle School Faith Formation

PreK and Kindergarten – Sunday 10:00 AM-11:15 AM

Our Sunday program welcomes children ages three through five to gather together in a classroom setting during the 10:00am Sunday Mass.  Children will learn about their Catholic faith through lessons featuring Bible stories, music, crafts, prayer, games, and more.Classes are held in the St. Margaret Preschool building located next to the church on the main campus. Catechists are trained and are VIRTUS certified through the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Children must be completely potty trained to be able to attend.

Grades 1-8 [Families choose Tuesday OR Wednesday as their preferred evening to attend throughout the year.]

• Incoming seventh and eighth grade students will attend Faith Formation classes/family sessions from September through December.
• Confirmation Prep for the seventh AND eighth grade students will begin in January of 2027, with Confirmation celebrated in May of 2027).

St. Margaret Parish offers Family Catechesis as the Primary Model.  Family Catechesis blends gathered experiences, in-person classes with trained catechists, parent sessions and online resources.  Themes drawn from the Creed, sacraments, morality, justice and service, prayer, and spiritual life are used as guides for catechesis.

• Children attend in-person classes two or three times a month with a trained catechist at St. Margaret Middle School.
• Family sessions (parents and children) are held once a month.
• Parent only sessions will be held four times throughout the year while their children are in the classroom.

Vacation Bible Camp

This annual summer program lasts one week and nurtures a child’s relationship with God in a relaxed atmosphere through music, crafts, recreation and Bible stories.

First Reconciliation

In preparing for this Sacrament, parents work together with their children and discover God’s healing and loving presence in their lives.

Both the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist are unique in the way in which they make Christ present in our lives and in the lives of our children.  The simple faith of your child at this age presents the perfect opportunity to explain both God’s rules for living and His desire to stay in close friendship with us.  For this reason, we encourage you to have your children receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation before they prepare for their First Eucharist.

First Eucharist for Children

First Eucharist is generally celebrated in the month of May for children in 2nd grade and higher. Children must be enrolled in Faith Formation OR attending a Catholic School as preparation for Eucharist.
