Growing in Faith

St. Margaret Church and St. Mary Magdalen Mission

Elementary Faith Formation
(Grade 1 through grade 5)
Children learn what it means to be a follower of Jesus. Catechists implement faith sharing through prayer and Scripture stories, and children learn Catholic tradition and doctrine. Classes are held on Wednesday evenings from late September until Easter time. Contact Lisa Hack, 410-838-6969, ext. 102.
(Pre-3, Pre-4, and Kindergarten)
Early childhood Sunday school classes are designed to increase the child’s awareness of God through active learning sessions that include prayer, stories, music, crafts and Scripture. Classes meet each Sunday morning from 9:45 am – 11:00 am, from early October to Easter time. Contact Lisa Hack, 410-838-6969, ext. 102.

Home Study
(Elementary grade 1 through grade 5)
Parents are provided with materials and resources to home-school their child in our Catholic Faith. Families meet together once a month from October-March for one hour for family catechesis, which includes activities, stories, music and Scripture. Contact Lisa Hack, 410-838-6969, ext. 102.

Vacation Bible Camp
This annual summer program lasts one week and nurtures a child’s relationship with God in a relaxed atmosphere through music, crafts, recreation and Bible stories. Contact Lisa Hack 410-838-6969, ext. 102.

First Reconciliation
In preparing for this Sacrament, parents work together with their children and discover God’s healing and loving presence in their lives.
Both the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist are unique in the way in which they make Christ present in our lives and in the lives of our children. The simple faith of your child at this age presents the perfect opportunity to explain both God’s rules for living and His desire to stay in close friendship with us. For this reason, we encourage you to have your children receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation before they prepare for their First Eucharist.
If you have questions about preparing your child for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, contact Joan Motsay Brown at 410-879-2670 or 410-838-6969, ext. 127.

First Eucharist for Children
First Eucharist is generally celebrated in the month of May for children in 2nd grade and higher. Children must be enrolled in Faith Formation for two years as preparation for Eucharist. Contact Joan Motsay Brown, 410-838-6969 ext. 127 or 410-879-2670, for more information .
Children must have successfully completed one year of Catholic school or a Faith Formation program prior to preparation. Parents or guardians must attend a First Eucharist meeting to register for this Sacrament.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word CLOW
The Children’s Liturgy of the Word offers elementary school-age children the opportunity to break open the Sunday liturgy readings and gospel at an age appropriate level with their peers. They will have the opportunity to pray, sing, and discuss the Sunday readings before returning to celebrate the Liturgy of the Eucharist with the entire congregation.
